Objectives: This study aimed to review recent digital health literacy programs in Europe and the United States.
Methods: Searches were conducted on Google for programs to improve digital health literacy in Europe and the United States. The websites of government agencies and publications were reviewed to identify their programs, target populations, strategies used, and evaluation results.
Results: Widening Digital Participation program (United Kingdom), IC-Health project (European Union), digital health literacy curriculum provided by a government agency (United States), and Health Literacy Online (United States) were reviewed. Various programs were conducted to improve digital health literacy of the general population, disadvantaged populations, and health service providers. The cooperation between governments, community organizations, and stakeholders was important to develop and implement digital health literacy programs.
Conclusion: Based on the review of digital health literacy programs in other countries, we suggest three strategies to improve digital health literacy in the Republic of Korea: (1) developing and disseminating digital health literacy resources; (2) collaborating with community partners and stakeholders; and (3) providing digital health literacy training for healthcare providers.
